Questions, answered

Ask us anything.

Everything operators and IT folks actually ask us about KitchenAI — minus the sales fluff.

The basics

What is KitchenAI?

KitchenAI is real-time, predictive kitchen intelligence from CBS NorthStar. It reads the live state of your kitchen and predicts order-ready times with up to 90% accuracy — so the time you promise a guest is grounded in what your kitchen is actually doing, not a guess someone made at the register.

What problem does KitchenAI solve?

The gap between what you quote and what you deliver. Quote 15 minutes and deliver in 25, and the guest doesn't blame the rush — they blame you. That gap costs refunds, reorders, and ratings. KitchenAI closes it by predicting ready times from live kitchen data, and by showing you exactly where time is going: slowest items, slowest stations, slowest transactions, per restaurant, in real time.

Because lukewarm food is a crime.

Who is KitchenAI for?

Operators. Single restaurants that want to stop guessing, and multi-unit chains that want every location on the same live data, viewable from one screen — so nobody argues over whose dashboard is "right."

Order-ready times & delivery

How do I give accurate order-ready times for delivery orders?

Quote the time your kitchen can actually hit right now, not a fixed number on every ticket. KitchenAI predicts order-ready times from the live state of your line — in-store, online ordering (OLO), and third-party delivery — so the pickup time you hand a driver or a delivery app matches when the food is really ready. That's how you stop drivers idling at the pass and food sitting under the heat lamp.

Does KitchenAI work with DoorDash, Uber Eats, and other third-party delivery?

Yes. KitchenAI predicts order-ready times for third-party delivery orders alongside in-store and OLO, so the ready time tied to a delivery order reflects your actual kitchen pace instead of a static estimate. The result: more accurate driver dispatch, fewer cold handoffs, and a promise time the apps can trust.

What's the difference between static prep times and predictive order-ready times?

A static prep time is a fixed guess — 15 or 20 minutes on every order, whether the line is empty or buried. A predictive order-ready time is calculated live from what your kitchen is doing right now. Static quotes are wrong exactly when it matters most — the dinner rush — which is why KitchenAI predicts the time instead of guessing it.

How is KitchenAI different from order-side prediction tools?

Order-side tools estimate pickup times by looking at the order from outside the kitchen. KitchenAI predicts from inside the kitchen — every item, every station, every shift — so it doesn't just give a smarter quote, it shows you why your 7 PM rush is breaking your promised times. A smarter quote is nice; a smarter kitchen is the whole point. See the full side-by-side.

How can I reduce "where's my order?" (WISMO) calls?

Give people a ready time that's actually right. WISMO contacts spike when the promised time and the real time don't match. KitchenAI's Kitchen Pace data powers WISMO answers grounded in what the kitchen is actually doing — so guests, drivers, and your own staff get a real answer instead of a guess.

How it works

How does KitchenAI predict order-ready times?

It reads the real-time state of your kitchen — what's on the line, what's queued, how stations are absorbing demand right now — and predicts when any order will actually be ready, with up to 90% accuracy. Not an average. Not last Tuesday's number. Right now.

How is this different from my POS reports?

POS reports tell you what happened — yesterday, last week, last period. Useful for the rear-view mirror, useless at 7 PM on a Friday. KitchenAI is live and predictive: it tells you what's happening right now and what's about to happen, while you can still do something about it.

What do I actually see in KitchenAI?

Live views built for the way kitchens actually run: Order Pace (predicted ready time for any order), Kitchen Pace and Kitchen Pace Delta (how the kitchen is running vs. how it should be), and Timeline (where every minute went). Plus the troublemakers: slowest items, slowest stations, slowest transactions.

When a guest texts "where's my food?", your team answers with data, not a guess.

Setup & IT

What does KitchenAI work with?

It plugs into your stack — it doesn't replace it. KitchenAI comes bundled with NorthStar OrderEntry, or runs standalone alongside PosiTouch and other POS systems — anywhere ConnectSmart Kitchen runs. Zero POS migrations required.

Do I need new hardware?

No. The install is a lightweight Windows service in-store and a clean integration. No tablets to mount, no sensors to wire, no new screens for the line to ignore.

How long does installation take?

Under an hour from install to your first live chart on a new restaurant. No POS migration, no downtime on the line.

What will my IT team want to know?

That it's built for them to deploy: outbound-only WebSocket connection, ECM-based authentication, and Prometheus health metrics. No new inbound firewall holes. They'll be done before their coffee gets cold — which, around here, is the only acceptable thing to serve cold.

Results & getting started

What results have real restaurants seen?

Here's Blue Ribbon, in their own words:

"We used to quote 18 minutes and deliver in 28. KitchenAI changed that within a month. Our promised times match the kitchen now — guests get hot food on time, and our 7 PM rush stopped being the worst hour of our week." — Charles Reiser, Director of Operations, Blue Ribbon

How much does KitchenAI cost?

It depends on how you run it — bundled with NorthStar OrderEntry or standalone — and how many locations you've got. Talk to us and we'll give you a straight answer, fast. Existing NorthStar OrderEntry customers: your account manager already has your KitchenAI access details.
